Proposed removal of wheel stops in Toronto

FAQs

Wheel stops were installed during road rehabilitation works in 2016-2017. Since then, several tripping incidents have been reported, prompting Council to review their safety and necessity. The investigation found that all wheel stops can be safely removed without affecting pedestrian or infrastructure safety.

Minor vehicle overhang may occur behind the kerb; however, this will not affect footpath movement. Existing parking restrictions for vehicles under six metres will remain in areas with narrower verges. Where infrastructure such as seating or communication equipment may be at risk, bollards will be considered for installation instead.
